DSMTA Board Meeting

Tuesday, May 5, 2008

Eric Benson, acting president in the absence of Ben Whitten, called the meeting to order at 10:40am.

Present were Kate Regan, Eric Benson, Helen Hoffman, Jeanne Pascal, Elayne Penn, Jean Pyle, June Rietdorf, and Joan Craft.

June Rietdorf, Treasurer, gave a two year summary of the Fidelity Investment Account.  The Fidelity Account is in Ben Whitten’s name only.  This needs to be changed.  June will call Fidelity about the correct trader papers to be signed by Ben.  June and Eric will be the new names as “traders.”  Once this is accomplished, June can talk to Fidelity about diversifying funds that are 100% stock allocated.

A motion was passed that we give $1,000.00 scholarship to The University of Delaware Music Department every year.  A motion was passed to amend the original motions describing the details of said scholarship to include the word “annually.”

Eric Benson gave a few notes from the MTNA convention:

The concerto division of the MTNA competitions has been removed.

There will be no leadership conventions this year (2009).  It will tie in with the National Conventions next year (2010).

Joan Craft will add the MTNA competition information to the handbook.

Website: The New Journal will put it up for us at $149 per year.  This includes up to 8 e-mail links.

Our website will be DelawareMusicTeachers.org.  The subtitle will be Delaware State Music Teachers Association.

Hopefully, Lilian Schaube will be willing to take on the position of our official web master.  Eric will contact her.

MTNA.org will list different state’s current board and current events.

Membership: We have 80 members to date.

The updated membership list should be kept on the website and listed geographically.

E-mailing handbook materials would be much more cost effective than mailing them. The cost of producing the new book was over $500 including the mailing.

Activities: 448 people entered the Solo Piano Festival.  About 400 actually attended.

There will not be an honors recital this year.  We are open to resuming it in the future.

Kerry Weber will still run the MTNA competition winners recital.

Convention: Dr. Marian Lee at UD has offered to get space for us at the University on November 15th.  She will do a lecture on technique.  Jan Baty will do a workshop on Alexander Technique.

The MTNA winners recital will be at 4:00 on this convention day.

SDMTA: Joan Craft presented a plaque to Eric Benson in gratitude for Jacob’s music providing a piano for the SDMTA Marathon for the past 4 years

Newsletter: Ben Whitten has the software.  Helen Hoffman submitted notes about the NDMTA Recitals to be entered into the upcoming newsletter.

Meeting was adjourned at 11:40am.
